EDX Markets Lists BitSafe's CBTC in CBTC's First Centralized Exchange Listing, Starting With CBTC/USD Spot
EDX opens a CBTC/USD spot market for eligible institutions, with Granite River Trading as liquidity partner and perpetual contracts planned in the coming weeks.
EDX Markets, an institutional-only trading venue with a central clearinghouse, announced on 5 November 2026 a partnership with BitSafe to launch spot trading of CBTC, BitSafe's Bitcoin-backed asset on the Canton Network. According to the release, issued from Chicago, the listing is the first time CBTC has been available on a centralized exchange.
Eligible clients can buy and sell CBTC against U.S. dollars through EDX's marketplace. Granite River Trading (GRT), a principal digital asset trading firm, will support liquidity across the CBTC markets, beginning with CBTC/USD spot. BitSafe confirmed the launch on X the same day.
What launches now and what follows
The launch introduces an initial CBTC/USD spot market. The companies outlined further steps:
- CBTC/USD perpetual contracts: planned for the coming weeks.
- CBTC/BTC spot trading: planned for a later stage.
- Collateral: EDX plans to accept Canton Coin (CC) as eligible collateral for CBTC perpetual trading.
EDX Markets products are available only to institutions in the U.S. and certain other jurisdictions, according to the release.
Trading incentive program
EDX and BitSafe say they will introduce a trading incentive program that includes zero trading fees for eligible CBTC trades, covered CBTC withdrawal fees and Canton Coin rewards based on eligible trading volume. The release states the program is subject to its terms, which were not detailed in the announcement.
Liquidity and backing
GRT, which describes itself as a Canton validator, said it will quote two-sided CBTC/USD markets from launch and extend support to additional CBTC markets as they go live. "Liquidity is what turns a new listing into a real market," said Josh Gibson, CEO and Co-Founder of GRT.
According to the release, CBTC is backed 1:1 by Bitcoin and incorporates distributed reserve controls and Chainlink Proof of Reserve to provide transparency into its backing. BitSafe describes CBTC as Canton's first non-native asset, intended for uses including trading, lending and asset transfers.
CantonCap data read on 5 November 2026 at 18:00 UTC showed CBTC at about 75,910 USD, down 5.4% over 24 hours, with 24-hour volume of about 12.8 million USD. CC traded at about 0.0953 USD, down 2.7% over the same period.
Why it matters
A centralized exchange listing gives institutions a dollar on-ramp to CBTC, which may broaden who can hold and use Bitcoin-backed value on the network. The planned use of Canton Coin as collateral for perpetuals and CC-denominated trading rewards would tie CC more directly to CBTC trading activity. Builders of lending and trading apps on Canton may benefit if exchange liquidity deepens the CBTC market.
