Societe Generale Joins Canton as a Super Validator and Plans Tokenized Collateral, Repo and Its Stablecoins
CIP-0115 gives the bank up to 8 weight for milestones such as a production collateral trade, tokenized Treasury repo and deploying SG-FORGE's EURCV and USDCV on Canton.
Societe Generale said on 13 May 2026 that it had joined the Canton Network as an Ecosystem Super Validator. In a release dated New York and Paris, the bank said it plans to accept certain tokenized assets as eligible collateral, act as a counterparty in repo transactions and deploy SG-FORGE's USD and EUR CoinVertible stablecoins on Canton.
The governance step came earlier: the Canton Foundation approved CIP-0115, "Add Societe Generale as a Super Validator (max weight 8)", on 27 April 2026, three days after it was created.
The milestones
Under CIP-0115, authored by Salim Nemouchi, Societe Generale's Global Head of Prime Services, weight accrues to escrow and is released as milestones are verified:
- Collateral, +1: at least one production collateral transaction on MainNet of at least $10 million within 9 months, with a bonus of up to +1 for finishing early. Eligible collateral includes tokenized US Treasuries, Eurobonds, Japanese government bonds, JPM Coin, SG-FORGE's EURCV and USDCV and Franklin Templeton's iBENJI.
- Repo, up to +2: SG Global Markets trading tokenized US Treasury repo on Canton, +1 as agent and +1 as principal, each of at least $10 million, within 15 months.
- Adoption, up to +3: for example +1 when an eligible asset reaches $1 billion of cumulative collateral, and +1 when total collateral or cumulative tokenized repo reaches $5 billion before the end of 2027.
- Stablecoins, +1: SG-FORGE deploys USDCV and EURCV on Canton with one production transaction of at least $10 million by 31 December 2026.
The CIP says the bank already runs Canton validators and has issued a tokenized bond on Canton. Its release says its first US tokenized bond issuance was completed in November 2025.
The limits on the stablecoins
The release states that USDCV and EURCV are not registered under the US Securities Act of 1933 and may be transferred only offshore to permitted transferees, who are not US persons. It also says SG-FORGE is not licensed to do business in the United States.
Who spoke
The release quotes Salim Nemouchi, Jean-Marc Stenger, chief executive of Societe Generale-FORGE, and Viv Diwakar, Head of the Canton Foundation. Nemouchi said: "Innovating for our clients is part of Societe Generale's DNA." Ledger Insights reported that the bank will accept tokenized collateral as margin for Prime Services clients.
Why it matters
Societe Generale's milestones are tied to production activity with dollar thresholds rather than pilots. If met, they would put a bank-issued euro stablecoin, bank-run tokenized repo and collateral acceptance on Canton within about 15 months. The release did not give a timeline for full deployment.
