Ripple Custody Adds Canton Coin and Canton Tokens in Version 1.43
Banks and asset managers on Ripple's custody platform can now hold and move CC and CIP-56 tokens under the same controls as their other assets, through a Canton validator they run or rent.
Ripple has added the Canton Network to Ripple Custody, the platform banks and asset managers use to safeguard digital assets. Release 1.43, dated 5 October 2026 and marked as a long-term support release for both the cloud and on-premises versions, lets clients hold and transfer Canton Coin (CC) and tokens built on Canton's token standard, CIP-56. Canton's own announcement followed on 7 October, according to CryptoNinjas.
What changes for custody clients
- One vault, one rulebook. CC and CIP-56 tokens sit beside a client's other digital assets, under the same policy engine and the same audit trail.
- Bring your own validator. Ripple does not run the Canton node. Each client connects Ripple Custody to a validator that it or its node provider operates, and each party's signing key stays in the client's vault.
- Transfer pre-approvals. An account can receive assets without signing every incoming transfer, which Ripple notes suits cold vaults.
- Two-step transfers. Clients can accept or reject incoming offers, and withdraw outgoing offers the receiver has not yet acted on.
The limits at launch
Canton is managed through the API only in this release, and it requires the second phase of Ripple's ledger accounting refactor. Clients on hybrid cloud deployments turn it on through their Ripple liaison, with their validator's details. CoinPaprika's reading of the release adds that arbitrary Canton application commands and delivery-versus-payment settlement are not supported yet, and that the supported tokens are CC and CIP-56 tokens registered through the Digital Asset Registry.
Why it matters
Custody is one of the practical gates between an institution and a new asset. With Ripple Custody, a regulated firm can hold CC and Canton-issued tokens inside controls it already uses, rather than opening a separate setup. Because every client brings its own validator, custody adoption on Canton also means more nodes on the network.
