LG CNS Signs With the Canton Foundation as It Launches KITL, a Digital Asset Platform for Korean Banks
The Seoul IT group says it will work with the Foundation on institutional deals, Canton implementations and a technical partner ecosystem in Korea, alongside agreements with Circle, Securitize, Chainalysis and Chainlink.
LG CNS, a Seoul-based IT services provider and systems integrator, has formed a partnership with the Canton Foundation to expand institutional use of the Canton Network in Korea. The agreement was announced on 6 October 2026, the day LG CNS launched KITL, a digital asset infrastructure platform for financial institutions. Ledger Insights and The Korea Times describe the agreements LG CNS signed that day as memorandums of understanding.
What the partnership covers
According to Asset Servicing Times and Finovate, the Canton Foundation and LG CNS will:
- jointly pursue institutional opportunities in Korea;
- develop technical capabilities to support Canton implementations;
- help grow a broader technical partner ecosystem for the Canton Network.
Thomas Chou, Head of APAC at the Canton Foundation, said "Korea is a critical market for institutional adoption of Canton in Asia." Hongkeun Kim, who heads LG CNS's Digital Business Division, said financial institutions are moving from exploring blockchain toward practical implementation. No financial terms or timelines were disclosed.
KITL and the other partners
The Korea Times reported that KITL offers four core functions: digital wallets, transaction processing, fee payment on behalf of users, and transaction data collection. It said the wallets generate private keys only when a signature is needed, and that the platform grew out of work on the Bank of Korea's Project Hangang.
LG CNS signed agreements with five firms that day. According to Ledger Insights and The Elec:
- Circle: stablecoin solutions adapted to Korea's technology and regulation;
- Securitize: tokenization of funds, bonds and other instruments;
- Canton Foundation: connecting Korean financial institutions to the Canton Network;
- Chainalysis: transaction monitoring;
- Chainlink: connecting external data to blockchains.
The Korean timeline
The Elec reported that amendments to the Electronic Securities Act and the Capital Markets Act, which put security tokens on a legal footing, take effect on 4 February 2027, and that security tokens are KITL's first target market. Ledger Insights noted that the Korea Securities Depository can onboard only a limited number of blockchains before the law takes effect.
Why it matters
Korean institutions have been a focus for Canton in recent weeks, from The Capital Forum in Seoul on 30 September to Shinhan Asset Management's approval as a Super Validator. A systems integrator that already builds core systems for Korean banks, insurers and brokers gives Canton a technical delivery partner in the market, ahead of the 2027 security token rules. The agreement sets out areas of cooperation; concrete deployments have not been announced.
