Nasdaq-Listed Nano Labs Says It Has Been Approved as a Canton Validator
The chip designer and crypto treasury company says it will run dedicated node infrastructure and explore settlement and on-chain asset management on Canton.
Nano Labs Ltd (Nasdaq: NA) said on 5 August 2026 that it has been officially approved to join the Canton Network as a validator node. The announcement was distributed from Hong Kong through GlobeNewswire.
According to the company, the approval followed a review through the network's governance framework of its technical capabilities, operational standards and compliance. The release does not say which body carried out the review, when the node will go live or whether any financial terms are involved.
What Nano Labs says it will do
- Operate dedicated node infrastructure and take part in the network's operation and ecosystem development.
- Provide infrastructure support for institutional digital asset applications.
- Explore digital asset settlement, institutional financial solutions and on-chain asset management.
- Seek collaboration with financial institutions, market infrastructure providers and technology firms.
Chairman and chief executive Jianping Kong called joining Canton's validator ecosystem "an important milestone" for the company.
Who Nano Labs is
Nano Labs describes itself as a Web 3.0 infrastructure and product provider and a crypto treasury company. It designs high-throughput and high-performance computing chips and says it holds BNB as its primary reserve asset. Its release describes Canton as an institutional network and names Goldman Sachs, BNY Mellon, Visa, DTCC, BNP Paribas and Deutsche Börse Group among its participants. The release's forward-looking statements also mention a planned appeal of a staff determination, without saying what it concerns.
Validators and Super Validators
The two roles are different. According to Canton's documentation, validators validate transactions, record activity, connect users and applications to the network and coordinate upgrades. Super Validators run the core infrastructure of the Global Synchronizer, sequence transactions, validate Canton Coin transactions and take part in governance; they are admitted through Canton Improvement Proposals. Nano Labs' approval is for the first role.
Why it matters
Listed companies are taking on roles in running Canton's infrastructure. Canton Strategic Holdings, a Nasdaq-listed company that holds Canton Coin as a treasury asset, already operates a Super Validator. Nano Labs adds another public company to the validator set, although its release gives no detail yet on timing or on the applications it will support.
