Litecoin Foundation Backs Greywick's cLTC as the Version of Litecoin on Canton
An MOU signed on 1 October recognises Greywick Digital's reserve-backed cLTC. The token is on testnet, targets a launch by the end of 2026, and Greywick was approved as a Canton validator on 7 October.
Greywick Digital has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Litecoin Foundation for cLTC, a version of Litecoin on the Canton Network. Greywick announced the agreement on 1 October 2026. Under the MOU, the Foundation will support Greywick's cLTC as the version of Litecoin on Canton for institutional trading and other institutional uses. The token is not live yet.
What cLTC is
According to Greywick's announcement and product page:
- cLTC is backed by LTC held in reserve and issued under Canton's CIP-56 token standard;
- the reserve is held in a multisig, and Greywick says reserves will be public and independently attested;
- transfers are limited to holders with credentials, and supply cannot exceed the attested reserve, under a cap that is raised in stages;
- it will go live once the reserve addresses, the attestation format and the launch sequence are published, and is being tested on a live testnet;
- the target is to be live on Canton by the end of 2026.
David Schwartz, Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Litecoin Foundation, said in the release that the Foundation is "happy to support that in any way we're able to". Greywick's site says details of its registered entity will be published before launch.
A validator approval
On 7 October 2026 the Canton Foundation's tokenomics announcements list included Greywick Digital Limited in a batch of approved validator operators. Greywick gave its reason as issuing tokenized assets on Canton, starting with cLTC. A validator node lets Greywick run its own infrastructure on the network. It is a separate step from featured app status, which issuers apply for on their own.
What still needs confirming
Greywick's release also names DTCC, Goldman Sachs, Circle and BNY Mellon as examples of institutions it would work with. It does not describe agreements with them, and we found no confirmation from those firms. The Litecoin regulatory claims in the release are Greywick's own.
Why it matters
Litecoin would join Bitcoin, Ether, SOL and BNB among the major crypto assets with wrapped versions on Canton. Support from the Litecoin Foundation gives cLTC a recognised position among possible competing versions. The real test comes at launch: whether the reserve addresses and attestations are published as promised, and whether venues list the token.
