Kaiko Joins the Canton Foundation's Collateral Sub-Committee to Help Tokenized Collateral Reach CCPs
The market data firm brings licensed pricing, including Bloomberg evaluated prices and NCFX benchmarks, to the workstream on getting clearing houses to accept tokenized assets as margin.
Kaiko, the digital asset market data provider, said on 7 October 2026 that it has joined the Canton Foundation's Collateral Sub-Committee. It will contribute to the sub-committee's workstream on getting central counterparties (CCPs) and other financial market infrastructures (FMIs) to accept tokenized collateral. Kaiko posted the same announcement on the Canton forum, and Coinfomania reported it the same day, citing Kaiko's post on X.
What the sub-committee does
According to Kaiko, the sub-committee defines and maintains the standards, policies and operational frameworks behind collateral mobility on the Canton Network. Its acceptance workstream aims to move tokenized securities, tokenized cash and cash-equivalent instruments from pilots to accepted collateral and margin at CCPs and FMIs, and to examine the legal, regulatory, risk and operational requirements that still separate tokenized assets from traditional ones.
Kaiko's post points out that eligibility checks, haircuts, margin calls and substitutions all start with a price that every counterparty trusts. It also recalls that in February, Canton's industry working group completed the first cross-border intraday repo using tokenized gilts.
What Kaiko brings
- Kaiko Data On-Ramp, which puts licensed data from established providers on Canton while each provider keeps control of its intellectual property.
- Kaiko Connect, which links post-trade messaging such as FIX, SWIFT and ISO 20022, and APIs, to onchain settlement and collateral workflows.
- Third-party data on Canton. Kaiko says Bloomberg Data License content, including evaluated pricing, is being made available on Canton, and that a partnership with New Change FX brought regulated benchmark FX rates to Canton applications.
The road here
Kaiko has moved closer to Canton over the past month. On 14 September it announced an extension of its Series B to $110 million, led by S&P Global, and named Canton, without further detail, among the new strategic investors. It did not say how much was invested.
On 30 September, Kaiko said its Data On-Ramp oracle was live on the testnet of Zenith, the EVM execution layer for Canton, and would go into full production when Zenith's mainnet launches, which Kaiko said is set to roll out with the upcoming Canton 3.6 release. Kaiko called it the first institutional-grade oracle on Zenith. Its release quoted Bernhard Elsner, Digital Asset's chief product officer, calling Kaiko "a core data infrastructure partner for Canton Network".
Why it matters
Tokenized collateral works in pilots on Canton, but clearing houses and other market infrastructures still have to accept it for margin before it becomes routine. Every one of those decisions depends on a price all sides accept, so a licensed data provider joining the workstream addresses one of the practical gaps. The membership is Kaiko's own announcement; CantonCap did not find a separate statement from the Foundation.
