a16z crypto, Paxos, Marex, TreasurySpring and Shinhan Join Canton's Super Validators
Five approvals in September 2026 follow the same model: a maximum weight held in escrow and earned only as each firm delivers milestones on Canton.
September 2026 brought the busiest month of Super Validator approvals this year. Five Canton Improvement Proposals (CIPs) passed between 9 and 25 September, each admitting a firm to help run the Global Synchronizer, and each tying its reward weight to delivery.
The five approvals
| Firm | Proposal | Approved | Maximum weight | Earned through |
|---|
| TreasurySpring | CIP-0122 | 9 September | 4 | Six steps tied to tokenized real-world assets, from $10m to $5bn outstanding |
| Shinhan Asset Management | CIP-0121 | 11 September | 10 | Tokenized issuance and settlement, KRW settlement, fund administration |
| a16z crypto | CIP-0123 | 21 September | 10 | Milestones agreed privately with the Foundation's committees |
| Paxos | CIP-0125 | 22 September | 8 | Native stablecoins on Canton, reserve management, 24/7 mint and redeem |
| Marex | CIP-0126 | 25 September | 10 | Regulated client access, institutional settlement, collateral mobility |
Paxos's proposal is the most specific: native stablecoin integration within six months, including minting $20 million of its major stablecoins on Canton, a reserve-management product within nine months, automated round-the-clock minting and redemption within twelve, and an adoption bonus of up to 3 more weight based on the stablecoins minted and reserves held on Canton. Marex must run its own Super Validator node within six months if its weight passes 2.5.
How the escrow works
In all five cases the weight is held by a representative Super Validator, and the rewards it earns go to an unclaimed pool until the milestones are confirmed. Earlier in 2026, Societe Generale (CIP-0115, weight up to 8) and Franklin Templeton (CIP-0118, weight up to 5) were admitted the same way.
Why it matters
Super Validators share every round's Canton Coin issuance, so each new seat changes how future rewards are split. Because the new seats are conditional, the split shifts only as real activity arrives: stablecoins minted, assets issued, trades settled. Paxos's adoption bonus and TreasurySpring's issuance thresholds are public, measurable signals to watch.
